Trevor Anderson
Trevor Anderson’s art practice is steeped in a personal mythology of industrial materials and the exploration of masculinity as a site of personal crisis and trauma. His current body of wearable sculpture occupies a performative space – activated by implicating body, sexuality, and undercurrents of fetish culture. These conceptual works of jewelry are evocative of conflict, violence, and otherness – challenging viewers to critically examine classic male archetypes in contemporary context. Anderson completed his Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art, Studio) at the University of California, San Diego in 2014 and exhibited expanded sculpture, installation, and performance artifacts in various gallery spaces around San Diego – including Kult, a group exhibition, and Air Space, a solo exhibition. As a 2020 MFA candidate at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Anderson culminates a body of work leveraging the visual language of metals and textiles. Forging pattern-welded “Damascus” steel, and inciting mock-domesticity by weaving Kevlar aramid fibers, sets a stage for a portfolio of individual and cohesive work.
