Thomas Ascough

Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media / MFA

Composer and sound designer Thomas Ascough has over ten years of professional music experience. Having started his career as performer, Ascough transitioned into music for media in 2015. He has since scored several games and short films, including the award-winning documentary Blood for Blood, and regularly contributes to the eight-time Emmy nominated Music Library, CrimeSonics.

Ascough also competes annually in the Berlin International Film Scoring Competition. His 2019 submission has been chosen for the Academy of Art University’s 2020 Spring Show. The score is a hybrid style between traditional orchestra and several forms of electronic synthesis. It was produced entirely in Ascough's home studio including the computerized “female” singer, which was in fact a processed recording of the composer’s own voice.

Ascough graduated as Salutatorian from Full Sail University’s Bachelors of Science: Music Production program, where he was awarded the Course Directors Award and inducted into the NSCS Honor Society. After moving to Los Angeles, he went on to study Ethnomusicology with Liberty University Online, specializing in traditional music and instruments of China. Currently, he is completing his coursework at ArtU while finishing work on his first independent album “Automata” to be released Summer 2020.
