Composer Yuliang Li was born in Dalian, China. During his undergraduate education, his music career in Shanghai flourished as a lead guitar player and vocalist in a melodic/death core band. After stepping on the main stage of some of those grand music festivals in China, such as MIDI fest and Donghai music fest, Li realized that a lot of great musicians are responsible for composing their works, not only playing them.

Li began learning composition and arrangement on his own, after years of study and practice, he can independently compose in many different genres including: R&B, soul, synth pop, trap, traditional Chinese music, classical orchestra, and of course, rock and roll. Because of his knoweldge of many genres and skills in mixing and engineering, he been invited to mix for the new album by Vroskiii, a famous underground rap duo in Shanghai.

Li's featured work is a short film directed and 3D modeled by ArtU’s current student Peiyuan Hu. The two met each other in 2020 semester and became strong collaborators. The story is based on Hu's personal experience of back pain during sleep. She used to imagine the pain as ghost’s attack. During the first meetings of the students' collaboration, Hu emphasized that the music she imagined for the film should feel peaceful and spooky. So, to create the appropriate atmosphere, Li started the track with celesta to imitate the peace of night. He also used the Chinese instruments Dizi and Pipa to incorporate his knowledge of traditional Chinese music. The sound design includes a mix of sounds that Li recorded himself, as well as a strategic use of whale sounds when the character sinks into bed, as though drowning into the ocean. This work exists because of a pleasant, efficient collaboration, and Li hopes that you enjoy the results.
